Copywriting tools for writing correctly
Writing correctly has to be the most important aspect of writing copy. Because it doesn’t matter how witty you are or how creative of a concept you come up with… If you make grammatical errors, your writing will feel lousy and you’ll be deemed unprofessional.
1. Copywritely
Copywritely is an SEO content analysis software, but it has many useful features for writing any kind of copy. Their paraphrasing tool detects issues and helps you rewrite sentences, while the grammar checker highlights your grammatical errors. In the end, you can drop your copy into the word counter to see how much you’ve written and to calculate your word frequency.
2. Wordcounter
If you want a quick and easy tool that lets you check your character and word count, you need to check out wordcounter.io. It won’t only show you the current counts, but will also tell you how you fit into the character limits of popular sites like Twitter, Facebook, or Google. All that while checking your spelling and grammar too. Oh, and did we mention that it’s completely free?
3. Verbix
We recommend Verbix first and foremost for those of you who write copy in multiple languages, perhaps even mixing them up on occasions. Verbix has been available for writers for over 20 years, keeping its services free to encourage students to learn new languages. This tool will help you with verb conjugation to make sure your writing is always correct, no matter what language you use. It’s available in dozens of languages including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, and Japanese.
When you’re looking for a better word
Now you’ll know how to spell the words correctly and how to write the perfect length. But what if you just cannot find the right word to use? These next three tools will help you with just that.
4. Cliché Finder
Copywriting can be tricky and we all fall victim to using clichés sometimes. And that’s okay -but there’s actually a tool to help you with that. Cliché Finder will highlight overused and stale expressions in your writing, so you can remove and rephrase them. All you have to do is copy and paste your text and click the button below. The only thing you have to keep in mind is their 10,000 character limit.
5. Headline Analyzer
Again, while it’s not a grammar checker, Headline Analyzer from CoSchedule should be in every content writer’s toolbox. With headlines and titles playing a major role in how (and if) content is consumed, this handy tool gives you feedback as to how good your hooks really are.
Totally free, Headline Analyzer provides you with a score that changes as you make modifications to your titles and headlines. Before you hit publish, this is a great tool to use in order to make sure you’re saying what you want to say in the most compelling way possible.
6. Unsuck It
It might make total sense to you because you’re used to it. Yet a newcomer or someone completely outside of your industry will probably have no clue what it means. That’s business or industry jargon for you. When we’re so used to using a specific phrase it can be difficult to think of a simpler alternative. That’s when Unsuck It comes into play. This super fun tool helps you decode industry language, so you can understand what they say. Or write it in a way so that others can understand. Whichever end of the “I don’t understand the jargon” you’re on, Unsuck It will be invaluable.
7. Words To Use
Sometimes when you’re looking for a better word, a simple thesaurus just won’t cut it. Words To Use is much more than just an ordinary thesaurus as it helps you think of words right as you write. The words are divided into parts of speech so that you can come up with fresh product titles and descriptions for a variety of occasions. First, choose a topic you’re writing about (e.g. holidays) and then the type of word you need. Each topic offers words for verbs, nouns, adjectives, phrases, and more. Amy Morse created this tool due to popular demand from copywriter friends and has since become a useful tool for everyone and anyone who writes. Like most of the tools on our list, Words To Use is completely free to use, so if you’re stuck looking for the perfect word, definitely give it a go!
Tools that’ll give you writing motivation
Staring at a blank page on the screen, watching the cursor blink… Sounds familiar? Yeah, we’ve all been there. Luckily, there are some cool tools out there that’ll help you get started and keep typing.
8. The Most Dangerous Writing App
If you’re the type of person who works well under pressure, you’re going to love this tool. With The Most Dangerous Writing App, once you start typing, there’s no stopping or turning back. It gives you a 5-minute time frame in which you literally cannot stop typing for more than 10 seconds, otherwise, everything will be lost. If you stop, your screen will blur, turn to red, and then it’s game over. Don’t worry, you can export whatever you wrote that far, so it won’t actually be lost. But just feeling like it will be, the mere pressure of it can give you that little push you need to get writing.
9. Written? Kitten!
If you’re not the type who needs the pressure but rather the one who appreciates rewards, Written? Kitten! will be a much better choice for you.
The concept is simple: start typing and after every 100 words the site will reward you with a picture of a kitten. Not a cat person? No problem! You can choose to see pictures of puppies or bunnies instead. Happy writing!
Copywriting tools for better readability
Just because you found the right words and have all the motivation to write pages upon pages… It doesn’t mean your copy will be easy to read too. And that’s when readability tools come into play. Hemingway is definitely the most known of them all, but let us recommend you two more to try.
10. The Writer Readability Checker
The Flesch-Kincaid reading ease score, the Gunning Fog score, the SMOG index. These three are all meant to help with assessing how easy a piece of writing is to read. The free online readability checker from The Writer uses exactly these three to tell you how readable your text is. Just paste your writing, sign up (or enter your email address if you already have an account) and you’ll see the results. Just keep in mind that this tool doesn’t check for spelling mistakes, so you need to take care of that yourself. The team at The Writer also notices that these scores don’t tell you everything and to take them with a pinch of salt.
11. Readable
Looking for a tool that will check your spelling and grammar too, apart from just the readability? Enter Readable. This tool will do all that – either in your browser or integrated into your favorite CMS with an API. You can also use it to check files, documents, spreadsheets, or even entire websites. It will tell you the readability (no surprise there), text quality, and keyword density. It can even assess the tone and sentiment of your content. Readable knows a lot but it does come with a price. You can try a demo for free and get a 7-day free trial, but otherwise, it’s a subscription service with 3 tiers of plans. But if you’re writing long-form copy for a living, it’s definitely worth it to consider subscribing.
12. Power Thesaurus
This tool is a great way to find new synonyms, antonyms, idioms, similar words, phrases and more.
So if you are looking to improve your writing style and make your text more readable and attractive, Power Thesaurus is a great tool for you.
13. Grammarly
Grammarly is so widely known and used, that I doubt there is anyone who hasn’t heard about it. It’s one of the best tools to check your spelling and grammar.
The free version allows you to correct your spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. If you want additional corrections and suggestions on improving your style or making your copy more professional, you should go with the Premium version.
If you have a big team and want an admin panel and more advanced features, you must go with the Business version.
When you want to achieve better conversion rates
Whether it’s the copy in an app, on a landing page, or email campaign, one thing never changes. You’ll have to find the right marketing channels to drive traffic to it, and then the copy has to convert. These next three tools are aimed at helping with that: they’ll help you write better headlines and increase your overall conversion rates. Let’s see!
13. Sharethrough Headline Analyser
The headline on a landing page, the title of a blog post, the subject of an email… You either nail it or people won’t click through and you lost them before they could even start reading the rest. Sharethrough’s headline analyzer assesses yours and gives it a “Headline Quality Score”, which is built up of multiple components. Underneath the overall score, you can read the details of the strengths of your headline and get recommendations on how to improve it. Sharethrough also gives you engagement and impression scores along with insights to work on them. The tool is completely free and super easy to use: just type or paste your headline and click the button to immediately see the results. As a little extra, it even shows you the character count and the number of words you used.
14. EMV Headline Analyser
The Advanced Marketing Institute’s EMV headline analyzer focuses on evaluating the “Emotional Marketing Value” of your headline. It means that they assign a number to the emotional impact your headline will make when someone reads it. When you submit your headline (which has to be 4-20 words long), you’ll get a percentage based score. For comparison they write that “the English language contains approximately 20% EMV words” and professional writers usually get a score of 30-40% for their headlines. (If you’re curious, the title of this article scored 62.50%) Apart from the score, the tool will also categorize your headline as either intellectual, empathetic, or spiritual.
15. Convertize
No matter how good you are with copywriting, there’s almost always room for improvement. And how do you know if you managed to improve? Test it!
A/B testing is crucial in optimizing the conversion rates of your copy. So even though it’s not strictly focusing on the writing part of copywriting, we couldn’t miss an A/B testing tool from our list. Convertize aims to turn consumer psychology into digital marketing solutions and offers different A/B testing and conversion optimization tools for its users. They offer solo and team plans – both of which you can try with a 14-day free trial.
16. INK for All
INK for All is an AI-powered content optimization editor that is great to craft new articles in a flash. Or, import existing content to see how to improve it fast. More than making SEO easy, INK makes it fun.
