Meta Descriptions
What is Meta Description?
A meta description is an HTML tag used to describe the content of a web page. This description will show up below the title and URL of your page as it appears in the search engine results.
Example of meta description in code (meta tags)
<head> <meta name=”description” content=”When writing a meta description, keep it between 140 and 160 characters so Google can display your entire message. Don’t forget to include your keyword!”></head><br/><br/>
Why are Meta Descriptions Important?
Since meta descriptions appear with your title and URL on the results pages, they can help you to increase your CTR (click-through rate) and encourage users to visit your page. Having the keyword in the body of the meta description is a relevancy signal for search engines that can help your rankings.
How to Write Meta Descriptions

Product Titles or Meta Titles
A meta title, also known as a title tag ” or “meta title tags”, refers to the text that is displayed on search engine result pages and browser tabs to indicate the topic of a webpage. It is an important element of an optimized SEO page. It’s simply the headline on the SERP (search engine results page).
For example, if you Google “kitchen appliances,” you’ll see that one of the top results is from IKEA.
In this case, the page title tag is “Kitchen Appliances – IKEA.”
Why are title tags important?
Title tags are major factors in helping search engines understand what your page is about, and they are the first impressions many people get when they discover your page via organic search. Title tags are used in three key places: (1) search engine results pages (SERPs), (2) web browsers, and (3) social networks.
Title tags example in SERPs
Your title tag determines your display title in SERPs (with a few exceptions) and is a search visitor’s first experience with your site. Even if your page ranks well, a good title can be the make-or-break factor in determining whether or not someone clicks on your link.
Title tags example in web browsers
When someone visits your page, the title tag is also displayed at the top of their web browser window and acts as a placeholder, especially when there are several browser tabs open.
Title tags example on social networks
Social networks will use your title tag to determine what to display when the page is shared. Here’s a screenshot from Facebook, for example:
Title tag HTML code example:
<head><title>Example Title</title></head>
